Today, the world is celebrating International Women’s Day.

The day highlights the challenges women face, ongoing struggles for gender equality, and the progress made across the globe.

This year, the United Nations (UN) has chosen the theme: For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.

Leading the country in celebrating the International Women's day in Migori County, Mama Rachel affirmed the government's commitment to supporting women's enterprises, particularly in the region's blue economy.

"Women are the backbone of Kenya’s small and medium enterprises, driving job creation, sustaining communities, and strengthening social networks for households," she stated.

She added, "I marked International Women’s Day with the incredible women of the Sori Beach fishing community in Nyatike Constituency. The government remains dedicated to boosting the blue economy sector to expand opportunities for women."

This follows President William Ruto’s message to the nation, reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting women and their endeavors.

Mama Rachel wrapped up her visit to Migori County after inaugurating several development projects, including the launch of a national school milk pilot program benefiting 11 schools in the region.
